YEREVAN. – Disagreements have surfaced among the opposition bloc Armenian National Congress (ANC) elite as to whether or not accept the results of the May 6 National Assembly (NA) elections, 168 Zham daily writes.

“Some ANC members find that accepting the results of such elections and going to the Parliament could discredit them once and for all. Those of this view propose to renounce the parliamentary mandates. [But] This option is opposed first by the figures who entered the Parliament and, most importantly, by the [ANC] leader [and Armenia’s First President] Levon Ter-Petrosyan, who renounced his mandate and relinquished his [NA] seat to former PM Hrant Bagratyan.

Incidentally, these disagreements are the reason why [ANC member] Republic Party Chairman Aram Sargsyan has not yet formally announced about giving up his mandate. [But] According to our information, Sargsyan has not changed his mind, and, what is more, he could leave the ANC, too.

By the way, information was published in the press, according to which [ANC member] People’s Party of Armenia Chairman Stepan Demirchyan, who was third in the ANC’s [election] list, likewise could renounce his MP mandate. Some ANC circles are actively working toward convincing Demirchyan in this by substantiating that, by staying in the NA, he undermines his once ‘nationally-elected President’ status,” 168 Zham writes.
