Report on Armenian Parliamentary Elections submitted to the Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe (PACE) is full of contradictions, Armenian expert Hovhannes Nikoghosyna claims.

According to him, the report contains lots of internal contradictions on observers’ estimation if explored in details. For example, one of the paragraphs of the report claims the new Electoral Code has got “some shortcomings” without mentioning what exactly, though all European organizations’ reports have recently been positive about it.

Part the report claims the elections were smooth, “voters were well informed about the procedures to follow”, however, the other part claims the lack of organization inside polling stations.

Most significantly, the report contradicts to its presentation on May 25 at the PACE Standing Committee session in Tirana. While the report accused Armenia of all anti-democratic sins, the presentation and oral speech by Baroness Nicholson of Winterbourne appeared to have plenty of enthusiastic elaborations on the level of Armenian democracy.

Baroness Nicholson’s whole point in her speech had been like “we just demand more as we see you have recorded great achievements already.”

To note, Armenian delegation head at the PACE Davit Harutyunyan also criticized the report saying it is “full of manipulations.”
