The key message of the U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton during the South Caucasus visit was to prevent increase of tension in the region, Western expert Mark Meirowitz said in an interview with Turan agency adding prevention of escalation in the region is one of the priorities for Washington ahead to the upcoming in United States presidential elections this November.

The President Obama removes troops from Afghanistan and Iraq as he does not want international problems ahead to elections, the expert said. According to him, Clinton made serious efforts in preventing wide-scale war between Armenia and Azerbaijan, which could otherwise cause disastrous consequences.

Obama is interested in relative stability in the Caucasus, hence, Clinton will call on settling Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and normalizing Armenian-Turkish relations.
