YEREVAN. – Armenia’s Ambassador to UN, Karen Nazaryan, addressed the UN Security Council (SC) on Monday, MFA informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.  

Speaking about the Nagorno-Karabakh (NK) conflict, the Ambassador pointed to Azerbaijan’s accountability for committing crimes against humanity at the conflict zone.  

Also, he stated that Azerbaijan’s authorities are responsible for violating the rights of Armenian refugees and displaced persons, unleashing an ethnic cleansing and an aggression against the NK people, and massacring Azerbaijanis in Khojaly. 

In addition, Ambassador Nazaryan informed the SC members that, as a result of the conflict, Armenian settlement areas were destroyed, and they continue to be occupied by Azerbaijan for twenty years.  

Karen Nazaryan also noted that the Armenian side exercised its responsibility to defend itself to protect the physical security of the civilians.     

He also stressed that Azerbaijan continues to breach the border regions of NK and Armenia, and rejects OSCE Minsk Group C-Chairs’ and UN Secretary General’s continuing calls to implement confidence-building measures.   

And in this context, Ambassador Karen Nazaryan noted that Armenia welcomes the three Minsk Group Co-Chairing countries’ leaders’ statement issued in Los Cabos last week, and he called upon Azerbaijan to stop all kinds of provocations.
