YEREVAN.- On July 5 Armenia marks Constitution Day.

The Constitution of the Republic of Armenia was adopted by a national referendum on July 5, 1995. The amendments to the RA Constitution were approved by a referendum held on November 27, 2005.

“The Republic of Armenia is a sovereign, democratic, social state governed by rule of law,” reads Article 1 of the Constitution.

The Constitution says “In the Republic of Armenia the power belongs to the people.

The people exercise their power through free elections, referenda, as well as through state and local self-governing bodies and public officials as provided by the Constitution.

The usurpation of power by any organization or individual constitutes a crime.”
