YEREVAN. – Over 160,000 people in Armenia have access to fixed broadband internet, vice-president of the Internet Society of Armenia NGO Grigor Sagiyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

At the same time there is no data on overall internet penetration in Armenia and the issue is in focus of the Government.

The ArmenTel [telephone operator] Company provides internet via telephone cables, while Ucom, Arminco do it via optical cables.

“Hence, over 160,000 people in Armenia use such a broadband connection. We understand one subscriber and three other members of the same family by saying household Internet access,” Sagiyan explained.

As the agency informed earlier, according to the International Telecommunication Union report, half of the earth will have access to the internet and fixed broadband by 2015.
