YEREVAN. – The Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) has no waste disposal facility but the waste is securely preserved, head of the Armatom Vahram Petrosyan told EkoLur NGO.

According to him, the cassettes are kept in a water basin for three years in order to reduce radiation and later they are placed in a dry store for 50 years following French technology. Afterwards they need to bury in special places, which Armenia still lacks.

As one of the experts of the NPP Suren Bznuni said, the storage of nuclear waste meets all international criteria for nuclear security.
