YEREVAN.- Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) issued a statement announcing consultations with other political forces ahead of the presidential elections in Armenia.

“Analyzing 20 years of independence, the present day political environment and its development prospects, we believe that transition to parliamentary system of government is one of the ways to remove monopoly, carry out necessary reforms and tackle problems the country is faced with. This will increase the role and responsibility of political parties and will create an opportunity to solve a number of problems once for all,” reads the statement issued by PAP parliamentary group secretary Naira Zohrabyan.

The party also stands for 100% proportional voting system. The statement indicates that transition to parliamentary system of government suggests that the president elected in 2013 will be in office during four years until the next parliamentary elections in 2017. The president, along with other political forces, will make legislative changes to lay the basis for a new system.

“Such an approach to presidential elections may become a crucial basis for consolidation and cooperation between various political forces. In the coming days Prosperous Armenia Party will launch consultations with political forces to see whether there is a chance to gather around this idea,” Zohrabyan said in a statement.
