YEREVAN.-  Preliminary reports say an assassination attempt was made on the presidential candidate, Chairman of  the Union for National Self-Determination, Paruyr Hayrikyan. According to Armenian News - NEWS.am source, the incident occurred in Tpagrichneri Street in downtown Yerevan. Paruyr Hayrikyan was shot in the chest and was taken to Erebuni medical center. Police officers are working at the site.

Armenia will hold presidential elections on February 18. The election campaign started on 21 January, and Hayrikyan has already visited several regions of Armenia.
