Today is the second anniversary of March 1, 2008 events in the centre of Yerevan.

That day, at 6:30 a.m. the police came down upon the demonstrators holding twenty-four-hour protests against the 2008 presidential election results on Azatutyun square. The police dispersed the protestors through use of force. Thereafter, thousands of protestors gathered near the Myasnikyan monument. Later, at night, the authorities called in the militarize and applied arms on the defenseless demonstrators, killing 10 people: Tigran Abgaryan, Tigran Khachatryan, Gor Kloyan, Armen Farmanyan, David Petrosyan, Hovhannes Hovhannisyan, Samvel Harutyunyan, Zakar Hovhannisyan, Grigor Gevorgyan, Hamlet Tadevosyan and wounding many others.

To date, the assassins’ paymasters are not detected, though names of four policemen firing at three victims are known. The authorities say March 1 case is closed, whereas the opposition and victims’ relatives declare unless the guilty are exposed and punished, the issue cannot be dismissed.
