On Tuesday, the Armenian, Georgian and Turkish partners of the Black Sea Silk Road Corridor (BSSRC) project will announce the official launch of this transregional undertaking.

The BSSRC project will get underway from the Noravank church of Armenia’s Vayots Dzor Region.

The two-year initiative fosters tourism development, cross-border cooperation and economic development in 173 communities across four countries of the Black Sea Silk Road Corridor—Armenia, Georgia, Greece, and Turkey. A trail of cultural sites will be marked throughout the region. The objective of BSSR—which is a joint project by the NGOs of Armenia, Georgia, Greece, and Turkey—is to create a 3,000 kilometer tourism path stretching from Thessaloniki, Greece, to Meghri, Armenia.

In Armenia, the project is funded by the EU Black Sea Cross Border Cooperation framework, USAID through its Enterprise Development and Market Competitiveness (EDMC) Project. It expected to alleviate rural isolation and develop local communities through the creation of tourism networks and the promotion of local (rural) services and traditional products.

US Ambassador John Heffern, Ambassador Traian Hristea—Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia—, the Greek, Georgian, Italian, and Chinese ambassadors to Armenia, and representatives from the Culture, Economy, Transport and Communication Ministries of Armenia and from the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin will be on hand during the official launch of this project.
