The Council of Armenian NGOs of Georgian Samtskhe-Javakhk and Kvemo-Kartli regions affirmed its position stating that Georgia should be transformed into federation. “The presence of consolidated national and traditionally residing people in the country will a basis for the federal reorganization. Protection of cultural and civil rights will be ensured by the federation constituents – autonomies. The issue is also topical for Armenians residing in the region,” the Council’s statement reads.

The message emphasizes that U.S. Vice President Joe Biden also voiced this idea while in Tbilisi. According to Biden, only peaceful and prosperous Georgia will have perspectives in its territorial integrity restitution. And Georgia should allow Abkhazia and South Ossetia to see they can be independent and enjoy rights of autonomy within the federal system.

Armenian organizations in Georgia positively reacted to the statement seeing position of U.S. Administration underneath. “However, Mr Biden’s statement artificially holds back that national minorities of Georgia have same rights to establish autonomies within the federal state,” Armenian message goes on.

Further the authors express readiness to assist the process of Javakhk acquiring full autonomy status within the transformed prosperous Georgian federation through political struggle.
