YEREVAN. – “Today, the boot of the Russian dangles atop the Armenian nation’s head, and we need to think: How do we save Armenia?”

The opposition’s reviving Armenian National Movement (ANM) group member, MP and former FM Alexander Arzumanyan noted the above-said during Saturday’s founding re-establishment congress of the ANM.

“There is no country that has gained independence on one’s wishes. You need to traverse roads for that. We have a domestic challenge, and it seems to us that we have ‘broken’ the slave [in us]; but that is not so. You cannot be independent while being on your knees,” he said.

Arzumanyan stressed, however, that he has never been against continuing the friendship with the Russian people.

“[But], for twenty years, we have struggled to build a democracy that will be guided by universal values. Solely a free man can defend the independence and liberty of his country,” Alexander Arzumanyan concluded.
