YEREVAN. – Mayor of Yerevan Taron Margaryan lit up the Christmas tree in Republic Square on Tuesday evening for the third time during his term in office.

Despite bitter cold, several hundreds of Armenian residents and guests gathered in the square, Armenian News-NEWS.am correspondent reports.

The Christmas Trees in administrative districts were lit up as well along with illumination on the streets. A concert with the participation of symphonic orchestra, and Santa Claus of course, continues in the square.

The dress up of the 32-meter high Christmas tree required over 6,000 fir branches, 38,000 lights and 500 toys.

As reported earlier, the municipality allocated 20 million AMD for New Year and Christmas celebrations.
