YEREVAN. – The march, which was organized by Armenian opposition National Self-Determination Union (NSU) Chairman, ex-presidential candidate Paruyr Hayrikyan and his supporters, commenced Saturday from capital city Yerevan’s Liberty Square. (photo)

The objective of the march is to inform people about the shortcomings of the Russian-led Customs Union.

The participants in the march also had brought signs along.

In Hayrikyan’s words, they still have a chance to change something.

“A policy of making Armenia devoid of Armenians, making Armenians disappointed with the homeland is conducted today.

“Now, they are celebrating the New Year. But after a few weeks, a profound depression will start among everyone,” the NSU leader said.

Before starting their march, Paruyr Hayrikyan and his supporters prayed and sang the national anthem of Armenia.

Following the talks that were held on September 3 in Moscow between Armenian and Russian Presidents Serzh Sargsyan and Vladimir Putin, Sargsyan had announced that Armenia plans to join the Customs Union and subsequently engage in the formation of the Eurasian Economic Union. And the road map for Armenia’s accession to the Customs Union was recently introduced. Aside from Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan likewise are members in the Customs Union.
