YEREVAN. – Accession to Customs Union cannot have negative effect on Armenia-EU bilateral relations and cooperation in various areas, MP Artak Zakaryan said.

Zakaryan, the head of parliament's standing committee on foreign affairs, on Wednesday received Latvia's Ambassador to Armenia Elita Gavele and Juris Poikans, Ambassador-at-Large for Eastern Partnership matters.

Armenia is ready to develop cooperation with EU member states, in particular on implementation of democratic reforms, cultural contacts and other humanitarian areas, the MP assured.

The sides discussed Armenia's foreign policy, in particular cooperation with Eastern Partnership project following September 3 when the decision on joining Customs Union was announced. They touched upon on Latvia's possible priorities during the EU presidency.

Artak Zakaryan noted that Azerbaijan is constantly putting obstacles to the initiatives aimed at having peaceful and stable region.
