Mamikon Khojoyan needs to be operated, Armenia’s Ijevan city medical center director Vazgen Margaryan told Armenian News-NEWS.am

He noted that Khojoyan’s overall health is normal, he has started to slowly regaining his memory, and he is already trying to answer to the questions.   

As per Margaryan, but since the elderly man had sustained a gunshot wound and he was operated while in captivity in order to clean the traces of the torture, problems have risen.

“An artificial joint has formed; there are fragments that must be cleaned; something fitting will be placed so that this man would not become disabled,” Vazgen Margaryan said.          

The Ijevan city medical center director added that negotiations are currently underway with respect to his surgery. It will be determined as to whether Khojoyan will undergo surgery in capital city Yerevan, or in Ijevan.

Mamikon Khojoyan, 77, a resident of Verin Karmiraghbyur village of Armenia’s Tavush Region, was taken captive by Azerbaijan on January 28. He suffers from mental illness. Azerbaijan returned the elderly to Armenia on Tuesday.
