YEREVAN. – Armenia’s Customs Union (CU) accession “roadmap” finds its logistics solutions, and there is a belief that the agreement will be signed, CIS Institute Armenia Country Director, political scientist Aleksandr Markarov told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

In his words, work is carried out toward Armenia’s CU membership.

“[But] the problems relate to the non-application of the [CU] taxes. The Armenian party is speaking about the presence of around 900 names [of goods and products] over which there may be [CU] tax exemptions.

“These exemptions are determined by a) Armenia’s economy, and b) the economies of Russia and Ukraine,” Markarov noted.

He stressed that considering these preferences and Armenia’s current tax rates, which are lower for several goods and products than the CU taxes, the provision of such CU tax exemptions to Armenia seems logical.

In the analyst’s view, however, it is clear that the non-application of the CU taxes on Armenia will not reflect on potential re-exportation.
