YEREVAN. – Kazakhstan and Belarus will do everything within the Eurasian Economic Union (EaEU) so that a customs checkpoint is set up between Armenia and the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR).

Boris Navasardyan, President of Yerevan Press Club in Armenia’s capital city, noted the aforementioned at a press conference on Thursday.

“Within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union, Kazakhstan and Belarus will attempt to push forward Azerbaijan’s policy; that is, goods shall pass through a customs checkpoint from Armenia to NKR, and in the opposite direction. This procedure should be maintained at least formally.

“As for the practical procedure, this depends on how the Armenian-Russian relations will be; that is, will Russia be able to say, ‘You will do as I say!’” he stated.

In Navasardyan’s words, the Nagorno-Karabakh issue is left for the future.

“It’s clear that NKR will not be in the Eurasian Economic Union. [But] it is unclear what will happen on the border of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh,” the journalist added.

Armenia’s EaEU accession agreement is expected to be signed at the meeting of the leaders of the EaEU member states (Russia, Kazakhstan, and Belarus), which will be held on October 10 in Belarusian capital city Minsk.
