“There is no alternative to negotiations; this is our principled position.” The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Edward Nalbandian, said the aforementioned at a news conference in Basel, Switzerland.

In his words, the quite difficult situation, which has been created as a result of Azerbaijan’s recent shoot-down of a Nagorno-Karabakh helicopter and its provocations, demands additional steps to create favorable conditions to move the Karabakh peace talks forward.

“Azerbaijan, with its provocative statements, its actions, does not contribute to the creation of such conditions; it does the diametrically opposite. First and foremost, the efforts should be directed to ensure at least the minimum conditions for negotiations.

“Once an agreement is reached on the fundamental principles and Nagorno-Karabakh also gives its consent to it, it will be possible to start talks between Azerbaijan, Karabakh, and Azerbaijan to develop the comprehensive peace agreement,” Armenia’s FM specifically stated.
