The OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs do their utmost to prevent escalation of the conflict, said U.S. Co-Chair Robert Bradtke.

Speaking of ceasefire violation registered in June, Bradtke labeled the situation as dangerous. He also added that the conflict is not a frozen one. He said that people die on the contact line, expressing confidence that both presidents want peace. Each of the leaders realizes that new war will be a tragedy for the region, he stated. Despite the outcome, war will lead to enmity that might last for decades.

The U.S. Co-Chair emphasized the mediation is not a competition to become popular. The mediators’ duty is to remove the obstacles between the sides. The point is the parties should agree with each other, not with the mediators. Bradtke also pointed out presidents’ political will to resolve the conflict.

According to him, rare meetings of the presidents is a key issue for the mediators, 1news.az reported, referring to BBC Azerbaijani service. He noted that styles and approaches of the two presidents differ, expressing confidence that both adhere to the peaceful solution to the conflict.

Co-chair’s role is to think of the progress in the peace process. He may have good and bad days but the most important is to move ahead, Bradtke concluded.
