RA President Serzh Sargsyan held a meeting July 9 with a delegation headed by Chairman of the Armenia-France friendship group, Senate of France, Serge Lagauche.

The Armenian leader expressed his appreciation of the Armenia-France friendship group’s activities, which enables the French public to get accurate information on Armenia. “You group of sincere friends of Armenia and of the Armenian people greatly contributes to the affinity between the Armenian and French peoples, as well as closer relations between Armenia and Europe. I hope you will get closely acquainted with our history, culture and problems. We, on our part, will do all we can to preserve our people’s warm attitude to France and the French people,” President Sargsyan said.

The Armenian leader expressed his gratitude for France’s essential role in the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide, emphasizing the French Parliament’s role.

Serge Lagauche pointed out the need for a new impetus to the process of international recognition of the Armenian Genocide, which will put an end to the world’s indifference that resulted in the Rwanda genocide, the second genocide in the 20th century.

The sides also stressed the need for intensifying ties and developing cooperation between Armenian and French parliamentarians within European agencies. The Armenian President pointed out he has always felt French parliamentarians’ support both in bilateral relations and at international parliamentary assemblies.

The Armenian leader informed the French delegation of the latest developments and concerns over the Armenian-Turkish relations and Nagorno-Karabakh peace process. He also answered the French delegation’s questions.
