Henri Verneuil was a very gentle and warm person, Claudia Cardinale said at the July 11 opening ceremony of the Golden Apricot film festival, recalling the shooting of “Mayrig” (Mother) by Henri Verneuil. She also noted that early in her career she had a chance to play with great actors. After playing with those renowned people, Verneuil asked her to perform the role of a mother in his film. According to Cardinale, the role was exciting.
The Italian star stressed that she started her career at 15 in Tunisia playing with Omar Sharif. She noted that while filming in Mayrig, Cardinale once again met with Omar Sharif.
The festival opens with screening of “Mayrig” (Mother) by Henri Verneuil (dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the director) where Claudia Cardinale had one of the roles.
