YEREVAN. – The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) has not rejected the nominations for Armenia’s new judge at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), but rather Armenia decided not to forward to the PACE the list of the winners of the respective national contest.

Armenia MFA Press Secretary Tigran Balayan told the above-said to Iravaban.net.

Balayan explained that the MFA had received the view of the Advisory Group of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, according to which one of the nominees, whom Armenia had submitted for the vacant position of the country’s judge at the ECHR, does not fully meet the criterion of being a recognized competent legist.

According to the MFA spokesperson, considering the aforesaid, it was decided not to send to the PACE the list of the winners of Armenia’s national contest for the country’s new judge at the European Court of Human Rights, and therefore this list could not have been rejected by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
