GYUMRI. – Deputy commander of the Russian base in Armenia Aleksey Polyukhovich issued a statement in connection with Gyumri tragedy.

In his statement, Polyukhovich expressed condolences “to the fraternal Armenian nation”, adding that they “are appalled bu the terrible tragedy”.

“The centuries-long friendship of the Russian and Armenian peoples went through many trials in the time of the Turkish wars, and during the terrible natural disasters. Now it's time to another test. The perpetrators of such crimes have no nationality. I assure everyone that the one who has committed this terrible crime will suffer the most severe punishment. Currently, the investigating authorities of the Republic of Armenia and the Russian Federation jointly conduct an unbiased and comprehensive investigation of this inhuman crime.

The command of a military base will provide comprehensive assistance to relatives of the victims. We hope for your understanding and support. Only together, shoulder to shoulder, we will be able to overcome any difficulties,” he said.
