Saint Gregory of Narek, has been declared by Pope Francis as a Doctor of the Universal Church during the Holy Mass in memory of the innocent victims of Armenian Genocide at St. Peter’s Basilica.
Prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, Cardinal Angelo Amato read the requests by numerous bishops and clergy to name Saint Gregory of Narek a Doctor of the Universal Church.
By accepting the request of bishops and the faithful, Pope said he declares Saint Gregory of Narek a Doctor of the Universal Church.
The ceremony is attended by President Serzh Sargsyan, Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II, Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia Aram I, Armenian Catholic Patriarch Nerses Bedros XIX, Armenian archbishops and bishops, high ranking officials, representatives of the Armenian community.
