STEPANAKERT. - Minsk Group co-chairs mixed something up in their statement, Karabakh Parliament Speaker Ashot Ghulian told Armenian News – NEWS.am, referring to the OSCE Minsk Group statement on Thursday.

According to him, it’s hard to believe that the leading countries possessing a democratic value system determine the future by a method other than national elections. “I think there’s no need to remind the co-chairs that their mandate is based on the requirement to conduct consultations with the elected representatives of the parties,” the Parliament speaker said.

The OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs disseminated a statement, which, in part, reads: “In the context of a comprehensive settlement of the conflict, we recognize the role of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh in deciding their future. However, none of our three countries, nor any other country, recognizes Nagorno-Karabakh as an independent and sovereign state.  Accordingly, we do not accept the results of these “elections” as affecting the legal status of Nagorno-Karabakh, and stress that they in no way prejudge the final status of Nagorno-Karabakh or the outcome of the ongoing negotiations to bring a lasting and peaceful settlement to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.”
