STEPANAKERT. - Yuri Hayrapetyan, Ombudsman of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) is going to take measures to draw the attention of the international community to NKR citizen Arsen Baghdasaryan’s fate, Hayrapetyan told Armenian News – NEWS.am.

The Ombudsman said that Arsen Baghdasaryan’s case was framed-up in retaliation to the trial against two Azerbaijani diversionists in Karabakh. Baghdasaryan was presented as a ‘diversionist’ and ‘intelligence operator’ in Azerbaijan. “As far as I know, at the moment of captivity Bagdasaryan had been discharged from service for disciplinary violations. Nevertheless, he is an NKR citizen and we are going to fight for his rights,” Yuri Hayrapetyan said.

The Ombudsman also said that scarce publications show that the press wasn’t permitted to the court hearing. Nothing was mentioned about the attorney either.

“In contrast to this, I’ll remind that the trial against the Azerbaijani in NKR was open, transparent and public. Media and international organization representatives were allowed to the hearing without any limitations. I myself met with the arrestees, and talked to each separately. Ombudsman’s office representatives were present during each hearing,” Yuri Hayrapetyan said.
