Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, speaking to Handelsblatt newspaper, noted that his country’s European partners are becoming more receptive towards the idea of a harmony of integration in the European continent.

“As a first step, this refers to establishing a direct link between the European Union [EU] and the [Russia-led] Eurasian Economic Union [EEU, which Armenia likewise has joined],” RIA Novosti news agency of Russia quoted Lavrov as saying. “We view this step as an important point on the road to creating a single economic and humanitarian space stretching from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean.”

As per the Russian FM, there are the necessary preconditions, including the complementing of the economies and the following of uniform trade rules, for an EU-EEU rapprochement.

Sergei Lavrov also expressed the hope that the EU organizations will take specific steps toward establishing direct working ties with the EEU executive agencies.
