YEREVAN. – Armenia's Foreign Ministry was one of the first state agencies to open official accounts in Facebook and Twitter that gives additional publicity to the activities of the Ministry, Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian said.

E-diplomacy, he said, using the technological conquests, creates a platform for the effective execution of the goals, and helps in being more accountable to the public.

“Rapid response to emergency processes and immediate answers to questions from citizens are now becoming a priority duty of the diplomatic service. Widely using the opportunities provided by information technology, we must simultaneously take into account the sensitivity of the information available to us, and the impact of the information we provide and make statements on interstate relations and fates of people,” Nalbandian said.

The more new opportunities are provided, the more they bring new unknown challenges.

The Foreign Ministry is using the opportunities provided by e-diplomacy. In addition to official website in four languages, Foreign Ministry's has actively working accounts on social media and YouTube channel that was opened back in 2008.

“I welcome the initiative of the Diplomatic School of Armenia in Yerevan to invite leading experts from around 25 countries to discuss issues of e-diplomacy. This conference shows that the Diplomatic School of Armenia and its partners have chosen a topic that is of great interest to many people involved in the field of diplomacy and international relations,” the Minister resumed.
