On the occasion of the Armenian Genocide Centennial, an Armenian cross-stone was unveiled in Halle (Saale) city of the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany.

Back in 2012, the Halle municipal council had decided to place the cross-stone this year, to pay tribute to the Genocide centenary, reported Hallespektrum.de.

At the event, an ecumenical prayer service was offered in memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide.

The mayor of Halle, Bernd Wiegand, delivered opening remarks.

“This cross-stone is a call for peace, reconciliation, and humanism,” he specifically stated.

Saxony-Anhalt Minister of Culture Stephan Dorgerloh, for his part, noted that the consequences of the Armenian Genocide have not been eliminated even one hundred years after this tragedy.

“This cross-stone should always remind the innocent victims,” he said. “We have to tell what really happened, and what the truth is.”
