YEREVAN. – The state should run the Electric Networks of Armenia company.

Economist Vazgen Safaryan, who is Head of the Union of Domestic Goods Producers of Armenia, stated the aforesaid at a press conference on Saturday.

“But now, they announce about a possible increase [in the price of electricity in the country]. However, it’s apparent that, in this case, the [prices of] goods will increase by at least 10 to 12 percent in the republic.

“The union of producers has about 300 members today. [And] if they take to the streets to protest [a possible hike in the price of electricity], I’ll certainly stand with them,” Safaryan added.

Nonetheless, as per the economist, the “fighting” tools do not end with rallies, and people need to express their respective views at the roundtables, too.

The Electric Networks of Armenia company has petitioned to the Public Services Regulatory Commission, with a request for an electricity price hike in Armenia. If this request is granted, it will be followed by an increase in the prices of first necessity goods in the country.
