YEREVAN. – A group of young people protesting against increase in electricity prices started a march to inform about their actions.

The activists accompanied by police officers said they would return to Baghramyan Avenue.

Starting from June 22, the activists closed Baghramyan Avenue and demanded that the decision to increase electricity prices should be canceled. On Sunday a part of protesters left Baghramyan Avenue for Liberty Square, while the rest are still holding a sit-in at the avenue.

Despite numerous protests, the Public Services Regulatory Commission recently increased the price of electricity in Armenia by 6.93 drams—instead of 17 drams, proposed by the Electric Networks of Armenia Company—, per cubic meter, and this decision will take effect on August 1. But the decision is expected to be followed by an increase in the prices of numerous products and services in the country.
