YEREVAN. - Head of the Armenia Police's 3rd Criminal Investigation Department (on Juvenile Affairs) Coronel Nelli Duryan also visited Yerevan’s Baghramyan Avenue.

She inquired about the minors among the young men. The Coronel said that the presence of minors in such a crowded place can be dangerous for them. “We are here so that small kids do not stay during late hours. This is our work,” Duryan said.

To the question on whether alerts had been received from Baghramyan Avenue with regard to minors, Duryan responded negatively.

Duryan’s visit resulted in furious reaction from the side of the protestors. “Danger proceeds not from us, but from the police,” the protestors said.

Protest against the electricity price hike has been held in Yerevan’s Baghramyan Avenue since June 22. In the morning of June 23, the police used force to disperse the protestors and arrested 237 people, but the protest resumed in the evening. Following Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan’s speech on June 28, disputes arose within the group of protest organizers and on the following day part of the protestors headed to Yerevan’s Liberty Square, ultimately stopping the protest later. The majority of the protestors stayed in Baghramyan Avenue, where an around-the-clock sit-in is going on.
