The Armenian church complex Khtskonk, consisting of 5 churches and located in Tekor province of Turkey’s Kars city, is left to the mercy of fate. The only surviving church of St. Sargis is on the verge of destruction.

The church will disappear from the face of the earth as did the four other churches unless urgent measures are taken, Akunq.net reports. The walls are already destroyed now; the stones were taken by the villagers. Other parts of the church were destroyed by treasure hunters.

The complex used to include five churches: St. Karapet, St. Astvatsatsin (Holy Virgin), St. Stepanos, St. Gregory and St. Sargis. It was abandoned in the 13th century during the Mongolian Invasion.

In 1878, when the province of Kars was included in the Russian Empire, the complex was restored and re-launched its operation.
