The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, is attempting to gain some political dividends from the current political situation in the country, said Armenian analyst Vigen Cheteryan, at a discussion on Monday.
Cheteryan responded to a question on whether the Turkish authorities will succeed in resolving the Kurdish issue, or the situation will continue to deteriorate in the country, and said: “It’s very difficult today to predict a positive development of events.”
In his view, there is a genuine risk that the events in Turkey will go out of Erdoğan’s control.
“The Kurds are much stronger and more organized today, [and] there is military cooperation between the US and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party [(PKK)],” added Vigen Cheteryan. “And it’s very difficult to predict the future course of events.”
