YEREVAN. – Even though the Communist Party of Armenia (CPA) tends to favor the constitutional amendments, it will present its final position after its Central Committee (CC) plenum.

First Secretary of the CPA CC, Tachat Sargsyan, informed the aforesaid on Monday.

In his words, however, the 22 thousand communists of Armenia are more concerned about Armenian-Russian relations than the proposed constitutional amendments in the country.

“We will stand with the authorities who maintain the friendship between Yerevan and Moscow,” Sargsyan highlighted.

He added that President Serzh Sargsyan recently received a delegation from the CPA.

“During the talk, we presented several recommendations to the leader of the country, and discussed matters of concern to us,” Tachat Sargsyan stated.

The referendum on Armenia’s draft constitutional amendments is slated for December 6.

Pursuant to the new draft Constitution, the country will make a transition from a semi-presidential to a parliamentary system of governance, and conduct completely proportional parliamentary elections.

The opponents of the proposed constitutional amendments, however, consider them to be primarily the authorities’ attempt to hang on to power.
