YEREVAN. – The “My Armenia” project has a very clear objective: We want Armenia to become a leading center for tourism.

Director of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)/Armenia Mission, Karen Hilliard, told the aforesaid to reporters, and within the framework of Friday’s official launch of this project.

In her words, tourists visiting Armenia primarily spend time in capital city Yerevan, and this means the tourism benefits and revenues are virtually inaccessible to the residents of the country’s provinces.

As per the USAID official, a network of Armenia’s tourist sights is planned to be developed along the lines of the “My Armenia” project.

Hilliard added that they want more tourists to visit Armenia, stay longer in the country, and spend more money.

The “My Armenia” project is implemented within the framework of cooperation between the Government of Armenia, the USAID, and the  Smithsonian Institution which is well known in the domain of cultural preservation. The objective of this undertaking is to promote the preservation of Armenian national culture by way of developing cultural tourism throughout the country.
