YEREVAN. - The reports of the local observers claim that there were irregularities involved in the constitutional referendum. Charge d’affaires of Sweden in Armenia Marten Ehnberg told the aforementioned to Armenian News – NEWS.am correspondent.

According to the diplomat, it’s not his role to assess the constitutional process as such.  "There are international organizations that can do that,” Ehnberg said.

Referring to his stance on the parliamentary system of governance, diplomat said it’s not his place to comment on what type of system Armenia should have. “This is, of course, entirely up to Armenia. I can only look at it from the side of Sweden, where we also have a parliamentary system. And for us it has meant that the political parties have evolved, they have become, shall we say, more professional in their political activities. When you are in opposition you have to act in a very political way, meaning that you have to suggest your own shadow budget, your own shadow social policies and other things like that. You should have your own shadow cabinet, spokesman for foreign policy, etc. Perhaps this will be more developed now that we have a parliamentary system in Armenia,” said the diplomat.

The constitutional referendum was held in Armenia on December 6. According to the official data, which a number of opposition forces didn’t accept, 63 percent of the voters supported the draft amendments under which Armenia will shift to the parliamentary form of governance.
