The psychological thriller by Garin Hovannisian and Alec Mouhibian “1915” has been awarded Jury’s special prize at the Lake Van International Film Festival held in Van. The Kurdish and Turkish participants attending the event welcomed the film with loud applauses.

The film was in the center of contradictions in the beginning of the screening, since the local anti-Armenian community condemned the festival and threatened the organizers.

The executive producer of the film is Armenia’s ex-FM and Leader of the opposition “Heritage” party Raffi Hovannisian. The film stars Simon Abkarian and Angela Sarafyan. The author of the unique film soundtrack is Serj Tankian. The film pays tribute to the memory of the Armenian Genocide of 1915 (it may be downloaded on www.1915themovie.com).

In an interview with Van TV near the Armenian Cathedral of Holy Cross in Akhtamar, Garin Hovannisian said: “This is the spiritual and symbolic heart of the Armenian Kingdom. We don’t feel as foreigners on this land. We feel at home.” For their part, the Kurdish journalists apologized on behalf of the Kurdish and Turkish nations, Asbarez reports.

The film “1915” was shot in cooperation with the Armenian Center for National and International Studies (ACNIS) and IDeA foundation.
