YEREVAN. – Prominent historian, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia (RA) and RA State Prize recipient, Professor Hrachik Simonyan, passed away in Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan, at the age of 88.

Simonyan held numerous positions in the Communist Party of Armenia agencies, and in academic institutions. 

He was a member in both the Armenian SSR Supreme Council and the RA National Assembly.

Hrachik Simonyan was actively involved in the Karabakh Movement. 

The academician was the author of three dozen valuable monographs, and over four hundred scholarly articles.
