The sanctions by Russia have had serious consequences on Turkey’s exports.

Turkey’s exports to Russia fell by 66 percent in January of the current year, as compared to the same period in 2015, and they dropped from $316 million all the way to $107 million, according to Milliyet daily newspaper of Turkey.

Earlier it was reported that Turkey’s total exports fell by 22 percent in January 2016, as compared to the same period last year.

In November 2015, the Turkish air force shot down a Russian Su-24 attack aircraft/interdictor nearby the Turkish-Syrian border. The warplane was taking part in the antiterrorism operations in Syria. This incident led to the ongoing strain in Turkey-Russia relations.
