Pope Francis held the traditional Good Friday service in Rome, condemning the indifference of Europe towards migrants, RIA Novosti reported quoting AFP.

"The Mediterranean and Aegean Sea have become insatiable cemeteries, reflections of our indifferent and anesthetized conscience", the 79-year old pontiff said, referring to the thousands who set off on boats that are not seaworthy to reach Greece and the rest of Europe.

According to the different data, more than 847 thousand refugees from Syria and other countries arrived to Greece by sea, more than 800 drowned in the Aegean Sea in 2015. Some 183 people drowned in the Aegean Sea in attempt to move to Greece since the beginning of 2016.
