The leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia should understand their responsibility for the inadmissibility of the escalation of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko said to journalists.

According to her, now it is necessary to stop immediately all the attacks, military actions and to come to a negotiating table. Matviyenko has emphasized that Russia will continue efforts by means of all departments to stop further escalation of the conflict and the beginning of renewal of peace talks, TASS reported.

Matvienko recalled that the settlement of the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh “has always been the focus of constant attention of the Russian leadership", adding that they are worried by the escalation of this conflict.

In particular, the senator recalled that the Russian government argued for an immediate cessation of hostilities on both sides, in order to prevent further development of the conflict.
