The Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri has extended the day of presidential elections in the country to May 10, the Lebanese national agency NNA reports.

According to the agency, the elections didn’t take place Monday due to the insufficient quorum. Holding elections requires the presence of at least 86 deputies.

Lebanon has been in political crisis since the expiration of presidential term of the ex-president Michel Suleiman in May 2014. Under the country’s constitution, the office of the president can be run only by a Christian-Maronite elected by parliament. Maronites belong to the Catholic church; most of their communities live in Lebanon. Only 25 percent of the country’s entire population follows this religion.
