YEREVAN. – A march demanding “Freedom to Levon Hayrapetyan” kicked off Tuesday in Yerevan, the capital city of Armenia.

The participants in the march are heading toward the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), and then they will march toward the Embassy of Russia.

At the MFA, the participants in the march will hand a letter with a request to mediate in setting Hayrapetyan—who is imprisoned in Moscow—free, the Armenian News-NEWS.am reporter informed from on location.

Subsequently, the protesters will head toward the Russian embassy to hand a letter with a similar request.

On April 14, a Moscow court sentenced Russian Armenian businessman and philanthropist Levon Hayrapetyan to four years in prison, finding him guilty of swindling.

Even though Hayrapetyan is in severe health condition, he was taken to a general prison cell.

Before his imprisonment, the Armenian businessman and philanthropist had spent one year at the detention center of the Russian investigative service, and then he was placed under house arrest.

An open letter was addressed recently to Russian President Vladimir Putin, and with respect to commuting Levon Hayrapetyan’s prison sentence. On April 16 and 17 alone, over 15 thousand people had signed under this letter.
