YEREVAN. – Nagorno-Karabakh cannot have anything to do with Azerbaijan.

President Serzh Sargsyan on Friday stated the aforesaid during his talk with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who is visiting Armenia.

The Presidential Press Office informed Armenian News-NEWS.am that the interlocutors discussed Armenian-Russian relations, and the present-day situation following the hostilities which Azerbaijan unleashed in the Karabakh conflict zone, in early April.

Sargsyan noted that the agenda of Armenian-Russian relations is quite rich, and that the most pressing issues are discussed during the talks.

“By starting large-scale military actions against Nagorno-Karabakh, Azerbaijan proved yet again that Karabakh cannot have anything in common with Azerbaijan,” the Armenian President specifically added, with respect to the present day situation in the region.

Lavrov, for his part, presented the results of the talks he held within the framework of his visit to Armenia.

“I cannot decide instead of Armenia, Azerbaijan, or the people of Karabakh,” the Russian FM noted, in particular. “But I believe that if we could succeed in moving forward in the political process, (…) this certainly would not only play an important role for the resumption of negotiations, but it would be a deterrent for not permitting flares of violence. But, I repeat, only they, the parties [to the conflict], can achieve a solution.”
