YEREVAN. - The opening of David of Sassoun bas-relief took place at Yerevan’s Cafesjian Center for the Arts Wednesday. The event was held on occasion of the 85th anniversary of the author of the work, Artashes Hovsepyan (PHOTOS).

The history of creating the bas-relief is very interesting. In the 1980s, when the Cascade architectural complex was still under construction, architect Jim Torosyan proposed to renowned sculptor Artashes Hovsepyan to decorate one of the exhibition halls.

During the following four years Hovsepyan diligently worked on the hall   appearance, which got the name “David of Sassoun”.

David of Sassoun bas-relief is the sculptural work of the homonymous painting by artists Hakob Kojoyan.

The Spitak Quake in 1988 and collapse of the Soviet Union didn’t allow the author to complete the work. It’s yet unknown who the author will charge the completion of the work.
