YEREVAN. - The official reception on occasion of the national holiday of Poland, the Constitution Day, took place in Yerevan Wednesday.

Gvyazdochka Choir of Polish Polonia Union performed the national anthems of Poland and Armenia, as well as three traditional Polish songs – “Czerwone korale”, “Czerwone jagody” and “Lipka”.

The event was also attended by Armenian Deputy FM Garen Nazarian, diplomats accredited in Armenia, as well as other officials.

In the words of Polish Ambassador to Armenia Jerzy Marek Nowakowski, the Polish Constitution is the first constitution in Europe and the second one in the world after the U.S. Constitution. This, according to the diplomat, symbolizes the power of democracy and independence. “I have repeatedly stated that Armenia is historically linked to Poland. Today I will say that the present also links our countries. The dynamic development of foreign trade turnover between Armenia and Poland, as well as the Armenian-Polish business forum held in Armenia two weeks ago are indicative of this,” Nowakowski noted.

Apart from this, the Ambassador noted that large Polish companies have expressed interest in making investments in Armenia, since they consider it as a partner country with great prospects for market access. Jerzy Marek Nowakowski also expressed hope that the deepening of cooperation between Armenia and EU, including the signing of a framework agreement, will become an additional incentive for a closer cooperation of the two countries, speeding up the process of visa liberalization.

The Ambassador stressed that the Armenian citizens are welcome guests in Poland. “Armenia and Poland are linked with each other by ancient Christian traditions. Armenia and Poland are linked by a centuries-old history, economy and culture. I’m sure that on the basis of common values we will manage to achieve strengthening of cooperation also in the framework of the EU Eastern Partnership,” Jerzy Marek Nowakowski stressed.

He also added that 2017 will mark the 650th anniversary of the Armenian community in Poland.
