Russia’s Duma adopted a decision to recognize the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire 21 years ago, speaker of the lower house of Russian parliament said.

The State Duma did it long ago, namely in 1995, Sergey Naryshkin told reporters when asked to comment on Bundestag’s decision.

The Bundestag, the lower house of the German parliament, on Thursday formally recognized the Armenian Genocide, with the resolution and with only one vote against and one abstention. The resolution also notes that the Bundestag regrets that the German government at the time did nothing to stop this crime against humanity, and therefore the Bundestag also acknowledges the respective historical accountability of Germany.
